Indra Sharma was born in 1923 in the small town of Nathdwara, in Rajasthan, India. He learned the art of painting from his family and did his first creation at the tender age of ten. He later graduated from the Sir J.J. School of Arts in Mumbai. Indra Sharma combines contemporary and traditional artistic elements. Remaining humble and devoted to his faith and profession, he creates icons of Hindu gods and goddesses that are altars of worship for millions. The magic strokes of this great master have inspired generations of Hindus and artists alike. This is the first time a collection of his work has appeared outside of the Indian subcontinent.As one of the most decorated traditional religious painters in modern India, Indra Sharma has had, in his forty plus years of painting, innumerable public appearances and accolades bestowed upon him.
